President Nelson announces 13 new temples
In the Sunday afternoon session of general conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced 13 new temples in the following locations:
- Kaohsiung, Taiwan
- Tacloban City, Philippines
- Monrovia, Liberia
- Kananga, Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Antananarivo, Madagascar
- Culiacán, México
- Vitória, Brazil
- La Paz, Bolivia
- Santiago West, Chile
- Fort Worth, Texas
- Cody, Wyoming
- Rexburg North, Idaho
- Heber Valley, Utah
The prophet also said that following the dedication of the Orem Utah Temple, reconstruction of the Provo Utah Temple would begin. The Provo Utah Temple was originally dedicated in 1972.
Since becoming the 17th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Nelson has announced temples in every general conference. The Ephraim Utah Temple was announced in May 2021. In total, the prophet has announced 83 temples:
In his Sunday afternoon remarks, President Nelson said, “As I emphasized this morning, please make time for the Lord in His holy house. Nothing will strengthen your spiritual foundation like temple service and temple worship.”
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints now has 265 temples announced, under construction, or operating.
