A Missionary Serving in New Jersey Passes Away

A full-time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Idaho and serving in New Jersey died unexpectedly from a yet-to-be-determined medical condition.

Sam Penrod, a spokesman with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, released the following statement on Sunday, March 3, 2024:

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the New Jersey Morristown Mission.

Elder Mack Jared Chappell, age 19, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, from a yet to be determined medical condition. Elder Chappell became unresponsive early Saturday morning and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Elder Chappell, of Sugar City, Idaho, has been serving as a missionary since July 10, 2023.

Our prayers are with Elder Chappell’s family, friends, and fellow missionaries, during this difficult time. May they each find solace and comfort in the Savior and His gospel, as they remember this faithful missionary.
