Elder Isaac Heninger, 19, of New Brunswick, fell in May 7 evening accident and died the following morning in a Salt Lake City hospital
A full-time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the Utah Layton Mission died Sunday evening, May 7, after sustaining a serious head injury.
Elder Isaac Heninger, 19, of Searville, New Brunswick, Canada, passed away in a Salt Lake City hospital early Monday, May 8.
According to a statement released by Church spokesman Sam Penrod on ChurchofJesusChrist.org on Monday, Elder Heninger and his companions were walking to an appointment, stopping along the way to visit with a group of young men who had electric scooters.
At some point, according to a release from the Clearfield Police Department, the missionary attempted to jump over a moving scooter, resulting in the accident.
Elder Heninger began his missionary service in December 2022. Elder Conrad Wilhelm, a missionary who knew Elder Heninger, posted a tribute online.
“I was just informed a couple of hours ago, that someone who I considered to be a brother, I never having one, passed away. His name was Isaac Heninger,” he wrote. “He passed away in the line of duty for God, serving as an Elder, disciple, follower, and representative of Christ. He was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He had one of the most willing hearts, to do what was right, to serve God and His fellow brothers and Sisters of God. More now than any other time in my life, I have a testimony of the Plan of Salvation, which teaches of love, and mercy. I know that my spirit brother lives with God, and rests from the trials and temptations that Satan has brought into his mortal-life.
I know that his missionary work is not yet done as he will be one of the righteous who teaches the spirits in the Spirit World. I don’t know why he, of all people died, someone so devoted to God, who had so much to offer the world, but I know that God’s ways are not my own. I know that he indeed has a plan, and it is he who I put my trust in.”
“We express our deepest condolences to Elder Heninger’s family and friends as they mourn his passing,” said Penrod on behalf of the Church. “We pray for all those who are impacted by this tragedy. May they feel the Savior’s love during this difficult time.”
