The Word of Wisdom is one of the principle God has given us with a promise. In this Doctrine and Covenants 89, we learn more about how the Word of Wisdom can strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ.

And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones.

In the year 1833, the Prophet Joseph Smith received this revelation that is helping us to be more careful in taking care of our body. In section 89, it contains the Lord’s desire for us to take care of our physical and spiritual bodies and provides us with the Word of Wisdom to help in achieving this goal. The Word of Wisdom is the Lord’s law of health and contains commandments and guidelines for His children to live happy, healthy and spiritually receptive lives.

Our bodies are special and holy. We should treat them with respect and strive to keep them healthy. A healthy body and mind help us connect more with God and bring to pass much righteousness. As we strive to follow the Word of Wisdom, we are promised that we’ll have greater access to the spirit of revelation, peace, and clarity in our daily lives.

There are things that the Word of Wisdom forbid us to take in as instructed by the Lord to go away with coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, non-prescribed drugs, and excessive consumption of meat. In addition, the Word of Wisdom contains specific wording that urges followers of this commandment to live healthy and active lives. The Lord promises that if we follow this commandment we “shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones” and “find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures.”

The fact that the Word of Wisdom is a commandment is the reason we should obey it. However, it’s exciting to learn how continuing scientific discoveries verify the wisdom of the commandment, a commandment given when knowledge of nutrition was practically nonexistent.

Let do our best in obeying this commandment for us to be healthy and receive great blessings from this principle.
Let kindly share with others ways we have felt the blessings of living the Word of Wisdom in our life’s?
