Prospective Latter-day Saint Missionary Dies After Reading Mission Call

Liam Mildenstein, a 19-year-old prospective missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away after receiving his mission call.

According to the GoFundMe page set up by the family, “Gathered in front of all of his extended family and friends Liam read his call out loud, and when he read ‘Tokyo, Japan’ his big heart just gave out. He fell backwards to the floor, and despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he never regained a pulse. Liam passed away about an hour after opening his call.”

The incident occurred in Provo, Utah, where the Mildenstein family had traveled for vacation. They are originally from Florida and struggling to process the difficult circumstances while being far from home. No official cause of death has been released.

“We want to ensure that Liam can be laid to rest peacefully in the middle of all of this chaos,” the Mildenstein family shared.

His aunt, Alicia Davis, wrote online that “there are no words for this heartache. Please consider donating.”

A friend Jana responded, “That’s so terrible, I’m very sorry!! But, oh how gracious and loving is our Heavenly Father to answer his prayers, despite knowing He would be calling Liam home. I have no doubt he will serve the Japanese people from the other side of the veil. May the Holy Spirit flood your hearts with love, peace and understanding.”

You can donate to funeral expenses at the family’s GoFundMe page.
