“Each day is a day of decision, and our decisions determine our destiny.”—President Russell M. Nelson, “Decisions for Eternity”

A birthday “is just another day for me.”  Born Sept. 9, 1924, President Nelson is the son of Marion C. and Edna Anderson Nelson. He and his wife, the former Dantzel White Nelson, have ten children. Sister Nelson passed away in February 2005. In April 2006, President Nelson married Wendy L. Watson.

A celebration in honor of the 97th birthday of President Russell M. Nelson will bring together family, friends and others from around the world to honor the life of the living prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Quotes from the Prophet

A perfect body is not required to achieve a divine destiny.

“From trial comes habit, from habit comes addiction, from addiction comes dependency.”  Russell M. Nelson

“You are God’s agents in the care of children He has entrusted to you. Let His divine influence remain in your hears as you teach and persuade.” Russell M. Nelson

“For each of you to receive revelation unique to your own needs and responsibilities, certain guidelines prevail. The Lord asks you to develop ‘faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God.’ Then with your firm ‘faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, [and] diligence,’ you may ask, and you will receive; you may knock, and it will be opened unto you (D&C 4:5–6).”

As a father of 10 children, President Nelson is also known by many as a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He also has more energy than most people his age, said President Oaks. “I always try to keep up with him and I can’t do it. I grab hold of the banister to balance and I skip along as well as I can.”

President Nelson is only the second prophet — the first being Joseph Fielding Smith — to be called as President of the Church while over the age of 90.
