Church provides update on Elder Holland’s health
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the following statement:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced on Thursday, April 6, that Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will take two months off to focus on his health.
Elder Holland is also struggling with a kidney disease and receiving dialysis, according to the statement. Elder Holland missed all of the Church’s general conference sessions in April 2023 after being identified as having COVID-19.
As announced last weekend, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland was excused from General Conference due to the fact he and Sister Patricia Holland are both suffering from the effects of Covid. Elder Holland also recently began dialysis for a kidney condition. Consequently, the First Presidency has excused him from all Church assignments and meetings for at least two months to allow his medical treatments and recovery to take full effect. Elder and Sister Holland note that they are very grateful for all the prayers and outpouring of support offered in their behalf at this time.
Elder Holland shared the following message online after it was announced he would not attend Conference:
In June 2020, Elder Holland was admitted to the hospital for an undisclosed illness unrelated to COVID-19. The Hollands briefly reference the illness in a video from Church News.
